Micah Kohles, DVM, MPA

Chief Veterinary Officer
Oxbow Animal Health/Compana Pet Brands

Dr. Micah Kohles, DVM, MPA, earned his DVM from Kansas State University in 2001 and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2010. Dr. Kohles joined Oxbow Animal Health in 2006 and served as Chief Veterinary Officer, for Oxbow Animal Health/Compana Pet Brands until 2024. Currently he owns and actively practices at Woodland Animal Hospital, consults with numerous companies across the veterinary and pet industry and serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Kohles is a frequent lecturer at veterinary schools and conferences domestically and internationally and was chosen as VMX Exotics speaker of the year in 2020 and Western States Exotics speaker of the year in 2021. Dr. Kohles is an active member of many professional organizations, including: AVMA, AAV, NVMA, AAZV, ARAV and the AEMV (Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians), where he is a past president. He currently serves on the World Pet Association Board of Directors, House Rabbit Society Advisory Council, Pet Food Industry Advisory Board, and is past chair of the Nebraska Board of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. He has also served on the boards of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association, Pet Advocacy Network, Pet Care Trust, UNL Food Processing Center, Veterinary Innovation Awards Committee and Lincoln Children’s Zoo.

Outside the office, Dr. Kohles enjoys the company of his wife, Ashley, two boys, Tegan and Kai and daughter Taiya. He enjoys anything outdoors, especially running, mountain biking, adventure racing, camping and canoeing when time allows.
