Veterinarians have a responsibility and valuable opportunity to better understand and provide care for geriatric rabbits. Through better wellness and preventative care, nutrition, and overall quality of husbandry, rabbits are living longer lives. The quality and duration of their lives is very individual and impacted by a multitude of factors including nutrition/husbandry, environmental stress, level of wellness/preventative care, genetics, etc. It is important to remind ourselves that “age” is not a disease. This lecture will cover the essentials to understanding common senior-related diseases and current therapies to support these animals.
