Daniel J. Burba, DVM

Professor, Equine Surgery
Oklahoma State University, College of Veterinary Medicine

Raised in west central Pennsylvania and eastern Kentucky.

Completed an undergraduate study in Biology at Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky. Attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama and graduated in 1986. Accepted an internship program in Large Animal Medicine and Surgery at Oklahoma State University and subsequently completed a residency in equine surgery. Joined Louisiana State University-School of Veterinary Medicine as an assistant professor of equine surgery. After several years was promoted to rank of full professor. After 25 years at LSU SVM, joined the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University in 2015 as a professor of equine surgery.

Taught in over 20 courses in veterinary professional curriculum, several graduate level courses; conducted numerous skills laboratories to veterinary students and equine surgery residents-in-training.

Authored and co-authored 15 book chapters; 38 manuscripts; over 100 proceedings; 10 scientific posters; numerous presentations at local, regional, and national veterinary meetings.

Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Received such rewards as the Carl J. Norden distinguished teaching award, teaching merit honor roll of Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society of Agriculture. A member of Phi Zeta Veterinary Medicine Honor Society, Gamma Sigma Delta Agriculture Honor Society, American Association of Equine Practitioners, and American Association of Veterinary Clinicians. Currently hold the McCasland Professorship in Biomedical Laser Surgery.

Research and clinical interest include equine orthopedics and laser surgeries.
Currently live on a small ranch near Stillwater, OK with his wife of 34 years who teaches English and Dressage riding.
