This session will address current concepts regarding cannabinoid-rich hemp products. With the rise in hemp product use, and advances in current knowledge of pharmacokinetics in pets, it is apparent that there are significant differences between species, making bioavailability and dosing of paramount importance in determining therapeutic value. Today’s hemp products exhibit wide variations in quality and composition, all with implications for clinical effectiveness and practicality. Practitioners should know about quality control and follow the AAVSB guidelines for selecting products. A full understanding of a certificate of analysis when choosing a product, regardless of the plant based product they are providing their clients, is paramount to good medicine.
