Clinical Professor and Department Head

Dr. Jennifer Schleining is a Clinical Professor and head of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Texas A&M’s School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. She received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from South Dakota State University and her DVM from Iowa State University. Prior to completing a large animal surgical residency at Iowa State University, she was an associate veterinarian in rural mixed animal practice in South Dakota, completed internships at Arizona Equine and Southwest Equine Medical & Surgical Centers, and a clinical fellowship at Oregon State University. Concurrent with her residency, she received a Master’s degree in Veterinary Clinical Science with an emphasis in Biomechanics and acheived board certification in 2010. She spent nearly 15 years at Iowa State University in the dual capacity of equine and farm animal surgery. She joined the faculty at Texas A&M in 2018 as a large animal clinical educator and food animal surgeon. Her interests include veterinary medical education, advancing surgical procedures and knowledge in large animals, and leadership development. She is married to her veterinary school classmate, Frank, and together they are on the continuous journey of attempting to convince their four children they really are cool parents.
