This session will emphasize a practical approach to cancer staging in primary care practice. We will review which tumors benefit from cytologic staging, how to approach the sample collection and interpretation, and how this impacts initial case management and client communications. By the end of this session, you should be able to make a diagnostic plan for your cancer patient, be able to pre-screen slides for diagnostic quality and make a preliminary assessment of the diagnostic material, and understand when further imaging studies and histopathology may be indicated.
