Since it's initial publication in 2010 the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters has become the gold standard in how to provide high quality care for animals in shelters and foster homes alike. This session will highlight some of the key recommendations and changes in the most updated document that can be used to help sheltering organizations reduce overcrowding, minimize stress, decrease infectious disease, and improve animal health and welfare. Case examples will be used to demonstrate how veterinarians can support shelters, using the ASV Guidelines as a tool to assess and improve operations.
